Impacts of the olive fruit fly on the ‘Cyprus Local’ and ‘Gemlik’ olive cultivars

چکیده

The objective of this study was to investigate damage rate and impact Bactrocera oleae on olive oil quality the ‘Cyprus Local’ ‘Gemlik’ cultivars in Northern Cyprus. This included 11 groves which were located two different districts. A total from separate cities (Güzelyurt Girne) selected during maturity time where cvs, are grown intensively. Two hundred fifty fruits (25 fruits/10 trees) randomly each orchard damaged counted. These data compared with environmental conditions determine relationships among rates conditions. results showed that fruit fly had a moderate correlation temperature, while temperatures above 20°C found provoke highest both cultivars. Moreover, cv. is more sensitive damage, especially at higher temperatures. An important result current work an increase raises acidity ratio reduces quality.

The Role of Olive Trees Distribution and Fruit Bearing in Olive Fruit Fly Infestation

The role of fruit bearing percentage in olive fruit fly infestation is investigated through a simulation model where the spatial law of dispersion distances were modeled via an appropriate exponential law. The dispersal of olive fruit flies was simulated for two distinct cases, an olive grove with no olive fruits and an olive grove with 100% olive fruit bearing. Results showed that when no oliv...

Reduction of olive fly, Bactrocera oleae (Rossi, 1790), damage by selecting native and exotic olive cultivars

Olive fly is the most dangerous pest in olive groves worldwide. Therefore the study of the most susceptible and resistant cultivars to olive fly can bring new information to diminish the olive flies harmful impacts. The main goal of the present study is to verify the olfactory response of olive fly to olive volatiles from five native Iranian cultivars (Fishomi, Mari, Rowghani, Shengeh, and Zard...

Infestations of Olive Fruit Fly, Bactrocera oleae (Rossi) (Diptera: Tephritidae), in Different Olive Cultivars in Çanakkale, Turkey

The olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae (Rossi), is an economically important and endemic pest in olive (Oleae europae) orchards in Turkey. The aim of this study was to determine olive fruit fly infestation in different olive cultivars in the laboratory. Olive fly infested fruits were collected in Çanakkale province to establish wild fly population. After having reproductive olive fly colonies, 1...

Monumental olive trees of Cyprus contributed to the establishment of the contemporary olive germplasm

Even though Cyprus was an important crossing point for the westward spread of olive, and one of the primary regions of domestication, its genetic recourses remain uncharted at a great extent. Throughout the centuries, a number of ancient olive trees remain in the same orchards, contributing to Cypriot oleiculture and society. In an attempt to explore this monumental genetic pool, a survey was c...

Transcriptomic responses of the olive fruit fly Bactrocera oleae and its symbiont Candidatus Erwinia dacicola to olive feeding

The olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae, is the most destructive pest of olive orchards worldwide. The monophagous larva has the unique capability of feeding on olive mesocarp, coping with high levels of phenolic compounds and utilizing non-hydrolyzed proteins present, particularly in the unripe, green olives. On the molecular level, the interaction between B. oleae and olives has not been invest...
